The smallest room with the most power! Did you know that when it comes to selling your home, a well-designed, modern bathroom can make a significant difference to your property’s value?

A bathroom that does not require any renovation is high on most homebuyers list of ‘must-haves’.   If you are thinking of remodelling your bathroom, why not ask the designers at The Interior Workshop to come up with a design that will work for your family and will also appeal to a potential purchaser.  When it comes to bathrooms, professional interior design is a very worthwhile investment.

How do I make the most of my bathroom?

  • As you get ready to remodel your bathroom, think about what works for you and your family.  There’s a good chance that this is also what any future homebuyer is looking for too.
  • Certain bathroom fittings are particularly sought after by homebuyers: double bathroom sinks, walk-in showers, and well-designed bathroom storage.  If you can make these fittings work in your space and with your lifestyle, they are well worth considering.
  • Do you really need a bath?  If your family prefers to take showers, a wet room or walk in shower may make better use of your bathroom space. But don’t forget a future purchaser may be a lover of a long, hot soak, so make sure you keep at least one bath in your home.

How can I add more bathroom storage?

Vanity units get bigger every year – and for good reason.  Bathroom storage is always in constant demand.  Think about ways to add more bathroom storage space and hideaway those unsightly shampoo bottles.  A double vanity is a great option, but consider wall-mounted bathroom cabinets as well.  Organisation is the key to a stylish bathroom – use drawer organisers, trays and bins to keep smaller accessories in check.

What materials should I use in my bathroom?

In most bathrooms, the layout and bathroom suites tend to be fairly standard, so use interesting materials to make your bathroom stand out from the crowd.

Get imaginative with tiling on the walls and floors as well as in the shower cubicles.  A colourful tiled splash back or vanity surface can make a tremendous difference

Grouting can easily discolour when regularly exposed to flowing water, so consider using granite or stone in shower cubicles – it’s easier to keep it looking fresh and clean.

  • Invest in your hardware to achieve a ‘designer bathroom’ look.  It’s not just about the taps either – well-chosen drawer and door handles, light pulls and shower heads all add to the look.

The perfect finishing touches

As it’s difficult to drill into tiles without damaging them, don’t leave bathroom radiators or fans and finishing touches to the last minute.  Rather, ensure that they are included with your bathroom re-fit.  Bathroom lighting, bathroom mirrors, wall-mounted bathroom cupboards, towel rails and radiators as well as bathroom blinds are best considered early on, so that they can be fitted at the right time in your bathroom renovation.
